Antihypertensive Activity of Fruits of Lagenaria Siceraria in Dexamethasone Induced Hypertension in Rats

A study was conducted in albino wistar rats to evaluate the antihypertensive effect of a herbal drug, Lagenaria siceraria in Dexamethasone induced hypertension. Duration of the experiment was 5 days. During the study, aqueous, ethanol, petroleum ether and chloroform extracts of fruits of Lagenaria siceraria were given by orally. The parameter observed was blood pressure. Bloodpressure was measured by the tail cuff method. The results suggested that theaqueous extract of fruits of Lagenaria siceraria possesses antihypertensive effect in Dexamethasone induced hypertension.
